18 Rules Wives Must Live By During The 1950s
It is crazy knowing that situations like those existed before, and if you are still not convinced, there is even what they call “The Good Wife’s Guide” which details how a wife can be the best she can to her husband and a mother to her children. These all existed in the 1950s, and being in the present day, most of the women who will read this will definitely react with these strange rules:
1. Always have dinner ready. It should be planned ahead and served once the husband comes home. It is one way to let him know that you think about him and his needs.
2. Wives must greet their husband with a warm welcome, which includes serving his favorite dish for dinner because men are mostly hungry when they go home from work.
3.Have your self prepared. Spend at least 15 minutes to rest so you’ll be refreshed when he arrives. Make sure to touch up your make up and put a ribbon on your hair.
4. Be a little gay and a little more interesting for him. His boring day may need a little more positivity after a tiring day’s work.
5. Make sure that the house is clean. Check all the parts of the house and remove clutter before the husband arrives. Everything must be organized.
6. Light a fire for him where he can hang out during the cold days of the year. Once he feels well-rested and relaxed, catering for his comfort will provide you with immense personal satisfaction.
7. Prepare the children. Take a few minutes to wash the children’s hands and faces (if they are small), comb their hair and, if necessary, change their clothes.
8. Children are little treasures and he would like to see them playing the part. Make sure that you turn off all the noise and manage to get the children to be quiet when he arrives.
9. Smile when you see him. Make him feel that you are happy and delighted to see him come home.
10. His topics of conversation are more important than yours. Reserve all the things you want to say because his time of arrival is not the moment for you to speak. Listen to him.
11. Make the evening his. Never complain if he comes home late or goes out to dinner, or other places of entertainment without you. Instead, try to understand his world of strain and pressure and his very real need to be at home and relax.
12. Your goal is try to make sure your home is a place of peace, order and tranquility where you husband can renew his self in body and spirit.
13. Don’t greet him with complaints and problems.
14. Don’t complain if he’s late home for dinner or even if he stays out all night. Count this as minor compared to what he might have gone through that day.
15. Always make him comfortable. Have him lean back in a comfortable chair or have him lie down in the bedroom and have a cool or warm drink ready for him.
16. Arrange his pillow and offer to take off his shoes. Remember to always speak in a low, soothing and pleasant voice.
17. Never question his judgment of integrity. The husband is the master of the house and as such he will always exercise his will with fairness and truthfulness. You have no right to question him.
18. A good wife always knows her place.
