Everyone has different daily habits. But what many people have in
common is their nighttime routine. So many are used to watching TV or
browsing the internet, or playing games on their smartphones, or just
checking their facebook news feed just before going to bed. Many of
them don’t know that all of these activities can affect the quality of
their sleep and therefore the quality of their life as a whole.
Want some ideas for a more resourceful nighttime routine? Why not
check how successful and organized people choose to end their day?
Prepare for tomorrow
One of the most useful things you can do before you go to bed is to
plan the next day. Write down your To Do list in advance so you can
start working on it right after you wake up. If you have anything
important you need to bring to the office, prepare it from the night
before. This way you will be more relaxed in the morning. Many
successful people even plan their outfits for the next day before going
to bed. All this can make you become more organized and effective and
your mornings will be significantly less stressful.
Read books
Successful people love learning. That’s why most of them are book
lovers. Many fortunate people, for example Bill Gates, confess that they
read articles and books until they fall asleep. The CEO of AOL, Tim
Armstrong also shared that when he gets home from work at around 8pm, he
reads books to his daughters.
Meditate
Meditation promotes physical and mental health. It is a great way to
get in touch with yourself, to become more relaxed and to enjoy the
present moment without distractions. It makes you more focused and
recharged. It is a great way to improve the quality of your thoughts and
sleep after a day full of hard work and dealing with the urban noise.
Just give it a try for a few minutes every night and you will most
probably be pleased with the results.
Visualize the next day or week
Think about what you want to work on tomorrow or the following week.
Visualizing will help you achieve the goals you set for yourself because
as you see the picture in your mind you become more motivated and
determined to realize your plans. Your mindset becomes stronger and your
confidence grows. Successful people spend some time thinking about that
just before going to sleep. Imagining even small details like what you
would want to wear, who would you like to meet, how would you deal with
different situations makes the visualization even more powerful and
makes you more productive.
Reflect
Reflecting on what you’ve achieved during the day will help you with
setting your priorities. If there is something you wish you’ve done
better or in a different matter, you can think of how would you change
it. Also, being grateful even for the small things in life can help you
feel more joyful and relaxed with how your day has gone. Successful
people usually try to think of at least 5 things they are thankful they
did during the day. This technique is worth trying as it can rid you of
stress and tension.
Disconnect
What many successful people have in common is that each night they
unplug from everything. They turn off their Wi-Fi, put their phones on
silent mode and leave any distractions behind. This is a really healthy
and helpful habit as it improves the quality of sleep and gives you the
opportunity to be alone with your thoughts.
Get your healthy sleep
Having enough sleep is essential for our bodies and minds to function
properly. The lack of sleep leads to different diseases and conditions
that can decrease the quality of your life. Even one night of bad sleep
can leave you feeling stressed and grumpy the next day. Make sure you
get enough healthy, uninterrupted sleep.
Accept that the day is over
Many people struggle to let go of the day. Some think of all the work
that has to be done, others are so obsessed with their work that they
don’t want to accept the working day is over and even continue thinking
about papers and documents when they get home. They struggle with making
peace with themselves just because the day is over. In that way they
deprive themselves from proper relaxation and recharging. Yes, life is
short and the need to do as much as you can is understandable. But think
about what you may be losing over thoughts like these. You won’t be
able to continue with the next phase of the day, you won’t get a proper
rest, you won’t be able to focus on other activities. All that because
of the inability to accept what you’ve done for the day. So try setting
time for the usual activities every day. For example, have in mind the
hours you want to work, schedule your time with your family and friends
and, of course, be sure to make time for a proper healthy rest, too. Be
present in the moment, don’t lose your ability to feel joy now because
of the unresourceful thoughts going through your mind.
