You’re a valuable person, and you have so much to offer.
Of course you know that, and might assume that others automatically
know it too. However, others perceive us in ways that are far beyond our
control. Think about how you form opinions and judge whether you like
someone or not. You don’t judge them on what they say alone, or how they
say it. Everyone puts off a different energy, and the way this energy
is put off is through body language.
Body language is a subconscious form of communication that is more powerful than words at times.
In this article, you will learn 6 ways to really boost the vibes
you’re putting off, and make sure your impressions with others are good
ones.,
CHECK YOUR HANDSHAKE
When meeting others, often times first impressions are paired with a
handshake. Your dad may have told you, “Make sure you have a firm
handshake.” There is a reason for that. Make your handshake firm, short,
and to the point. One may venture to say that if you have a soft and
weak handshake, you may lack in confidence. If your handshake is too
hard, some may perceive you as overbearing. Meet in the middle. If you
need some practice, try shaking hands with your best friend and asking
how they perceive it.
MAKE EYE CONTACT
“Look me in the eye and say that!” Eye contact is often correlated
with honesty and integrity. When you are speaking with someone, make
sure to not let your eyes wander too far. Keep your eyes close and show
that you aren’t afraid to look someone in the eye. Certainly this takes
practice if you are not used to it. Find someone you know and practice
having a conversation without breaking eye contact once. It will get
easier.
POSITION YOURSELF CORRECTLY
Posture, posture, posture. How do you perceive someone who is always
slouching in their seat? What about someone whose arms are always
crossed? Posture means a lot. Be sure to stand and sit up straight with
poise and confidence. Don’t cross your arms, because it may be perceived
as being closed-minded. When around others, make sure that your body
language is reflecting openness.
DON’T FORGET TO SMILE
Don’t be afraid to flash those pearly whites. Have you ever just been
deep in thought, but someone asks you if you are OK? Sometimes we have
to look at the way others are perceiving us by the expressions on our
face. A smile is the same in every language, and the world gives us a
lot of reasons to smile. Start smiling more and see how your world
changes. You might be happier for it too, as an added bonus.
PRACTICE SELF-LOVE
The inner world reflects in the outer world. Attitude is everything.
If you don’t love yourself, this may subconsciously be projected
outward. What if you started logging 5 things a day that you love about
yourself in your journal? The good energy that this will create in your
mind will emanate outwards subconsciously. Loving yourself equates to
those good vibes being felt by others. If you don’t love yourself, why
should anyone else like you?
DON’T BE TOO RIGID
The stressors of daily life come knocking hard. Sometimes it shows in
the way we carry ourselves. If you have been stressed out, spend some
time in quiet meditation or go get a massage. Don’t take yourself so
seriously. Let some of that tension go. If you look too rigid, others
may perceive you as a tense and uptight person. Check yourself often to
make sure you are not too tense.
